Oil/Panel
84 x 100,5 cm
Big size panel where the artist describes another landscape with figures: a group of children in a stubble. The boy on the left is sat on the floor and is wearing a light shirt and brown trousers; he is looking at the other boy standing on the right, dressed in a violet shirt and brown trousers with knee patches and braces. This second boy has his left hand on his hip and with his right hand is holding a sack; he is looking thoughtfully to the horizon, to the left part of the painting. Behind this scene, there are two girls walking with his back to the spectator; the tallest girl is holding a basket with her left arm.
In the background after all these characters, there is a landscape in perspective created by horizontal brushstrokes in increasingly light tones.
The painter’s purpose is capturing the midday heat of the scene and the vaporous distance of La Mancha. The artist creates again the volumes of the elements using a detailed study of complementary colours. In this painting, in particular, a range of violets predominates contrasting with the yellow/ochre tones.
The signature is on the lower right part and says “A. López Torres, 1958”.
