year 1924
Oil/Canvas
76,5 x 100 cm

Oil painting where the artist depicts a close scene inside a room with the painter’s grandmother and his cousin Eugenia Torres Grueso as the main characters. Grandmother Alejandra is knitting while on her left side the small girl is sat holding a doll and staring at her grandmother’s hands.

The only light point comes through the window and covers both figures gently. There are other elements in the background such as a sofa and a half-covered sewing machine, which are almost in the darkness. The painter uses less bright colours than the ones he would use in future works.

This work would be one of the most admired of this period by Ángel Andrade, who selected it together with other works to be featured at the Fine Arts exhibition held in Tomelloso in 1924.

The signature is on the lower right corner and says “A. López Torres -1924-”.

Donated by his sisters Eulalia and Carmen López Torres.
